What causes postpartum disorders?

Having a baby can be the happiest moment in a woman’s life but sometimes it can also be very hard and stressful time. Generally many women feels a mild depression after giving birth which is called baby blues but the severe form of the baby blue is postpartum depression. Almost 10-20 percent of woman feels this type of depression after giving birth. It can interfere in daily life. It is characterized by more intense feelings of sadness, despair, anxiety and irritability. These symptoms are long lasting and can occur anytime in the life. The situation can be worsen if the proper medication is not taken. Postpartum psychosis is rare type of depression and one in 500 to 1000 new mothers is affected by it.

There is no single cause for the postpartum disorder and most of the researched has been centered on hormone changes. A recent study shows showed similarities between certain hormone levels of mothers during the postpartum period and other women not in postpartum who suffer from chronic depression. Fatigue women are more likely to develop the depression problem. Apart from biological cause there are also sociological causes.
