However, when grief and a feeling of emptiness take hold of one’s life and makes it impossible to return to enjoy life, it is quite probable that the person is suffering from a severe form of depression. According to specialists, the symptoms of severe depression vary from one person to another; however, there are certain common bouts that may help the close ones to identify the person’s state of mind. It is important to note that the feeling of hopelessness and helplessness persistently dissuades the person from looking at the positive aspect of life. The person lives in a consistent state of pessimism wherein he draws no inspiration or encouragement from life. The suffering person may also show evident loss of interest in almost all daily activities and routines he had been following.

Most of the people suffering from a depressive state of mind also experience changes in sleep patterns, called insomnia. This lack of sleep may or may not be accompanied by restlessness or irritability
