Post partum depression, better known as the post natal depression, is a form of clinical depression. This form of depression, as the word says, happens immediately after the delivery of a baby. However, this condition does not affect every new mother. In fact, according to surveys, only 5-25 per cent of women expecting child birth face this kind of depression. The most common symptoms of this condition are reduced libido or interest in sex, insomnia, sadness, anxiety, irritability and episodes of persistent crying. The predominant cause of the same is abrupt hormonal imbalances right after the child birth. |

This condition is also observed among mothers given birth to children with some sort of abnormalities. It is the immense grief of their child’s abnormalities that takes the form of clinical depression. Such mothers exhibit a strange of behavior of self-mutilation or self-destruction. Most of the times, cases of post partum depression treat naturally within a span of a few days to weeks. However, self cure may not prove effective in each and every case. Therefore, severe bouts of this depressive condition can only be treated the immediate intake of antidepressants. Once the mother starts feeling better she may be subjected to treatments by several psychotherapies. |
