Kava and Depression

Kava is an herbal supplement that can be used for the treatment of depression; however it should be taken under the supervision of a physician if other medications are being taken. Kava is an ancient western Pacific crop that is botanically related to the black pepper and has heart shaped leaves and flowers.

Kava is one of the herbal remedies that has a calming sensation, which creates a feeling of well being, helps to promote sleep and other anti anxiety feelings. This can work well for some people that suffer from depression; however it does have properties that can cause dangerous drug interactions. This means it should be used only after consulting with a physician when using it to treat symptoms of depression, especially if there are other medications for health conditions being taken or anti anxiety drugs.

This is an herbal remedy that has been used in the treatment of anxiety and depression since ancient times in the west Pacific Fijian families. It is taken as a nightly drink and is reportedly able to be used and still retain a clear mind and fully alert while calming the symptoms of anxiety.
