Facts about the Treatment of Clinical Depression
Clinical depression has a number of treatment options but you need to know the best treatment options available because there are some that come with serious side defects. One of the common treatment options for depression is electroconvulsive therapy ECT which is also referred to as shock therapy. In this type of treatment, the patient is given two medications; a muscle relaxer and a general anesthetic. |
Electrodes are input in the scalp of the sufferer and wires are attached to these electrodes. Once the wires are attached to the electrodes, series of shocks are delivered to the patient. If the therapy is done correctly, a seizure will result and the hands and feet will experience mild movements because of the muscle relaxers that have been administered.
Another treatment option for clinical depression is known as Vagus Nerve Stimulation which is an invasive surgical procedure which involves placing some sort of peacemaker in the chest. It is then connected to the vagus nerve which runs from the brain all the way to the feet. This nerve is what is thought to be the one that influences mood. The other treatment option of depression is referred to as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation TMS which is still undergoing experimentation.
