Facts about postpartum depression

Having a baby can be the happiest moment in a woman’s life but sometimes it can also be very hard and stressful time. Generally many women feels a mild depression after giving birth which is called baby blues but the severe form of the baby blue is postpartum depression. Almost 10-20 percent of woman feels this type of depression after giving birth. It can interfere in daily life. It is characterized by more intense feelings of sadness, despair, anxiety and irritability. These symptoms are long lasting and can occur anytime in the life. The situation can be worsen if the proper medication is not taken. Postpartum psychosis is rare type of depression and one in 500 to 1000 new mothers is affected by it. Here she can think about harming herself or the child. Women with bipolar disorder or schizoaffective disorder have greater risks to develop the problem of Postpartum psychosis. These following syndromes can be happened in this time such as

*   Restlessness, anger or irritability
* Sadness, feel like crying a lot
* Worthlessness or guilt
* Fear of hurting your baby or yourself
* Overly worried about the baby or not concerned about the baby at all
* Little or no energy
* Headaches, chest pains, rapid heartbeat, numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, or fast and shallow breathing
* Trouble sleeping well
* Poor eating habits
* Trouble focusing, remembering or making decisions
* Little interest in things you used to enjoy, including sex
