Endogenous or unipolar depression is a form of depression that does not have any cause or trigger associated with it. Patients experience all the classic symptoms of depression. While other forms of depression may be caused due to poor interpersonal relationships, loss of a loved one, stress, endogenous depression is not caused by any specific factor. There does seem to be a link between genetics and endogenous depression. Parents with this form of depression are more likely to pass on this condition to their children. People with endogenous depression tend to feel tired and listless. They show very little or no interest in daily activities. They also experience a reduced libido. Most of the people with endogenous depression have difficulty in sleeping and eating. They also experience symptoms like headaches, body aches, fatigue, and digestive trouble. Emotional symptoms of this condition include a feeling of melancholy, sadness, guilt and frustration. Research has shown that many people with endogenous depression actually contemplate suicide. The signs of endogenous depression may last for two weeks or more. If you feel that you or any one you know has endogenous depression, it is best to seek medical help before the feelings spin out of control and cause fatal results. |
