Causes of psychotic depression

Psychotic depression is a severe stage of depression in which the patient may experience delusions and hallucinations. It is an occasional disease which occurs in stages. In continuing cases, the phases of psychotic depression last for about 2 years. Almost 0.4 percent of the total population is suffering from this mental depression. Other mental illness or depression also have the same symptoms but the patient suffering from psychotic depression is aware of these thoughts and is chagrined to face people. |

The exact cause of psychotic depression is unknown. It is assumed that this depression may be caused because of over production of cortical hormone at some stage of stress and abnormal functioning of thyroid is also leads to psychotic depression. It is believed that biological illness also one of the main reason for this mental illness. In some case, the body doesn’t produce or stimulate certain hormones properly. This may lead to hallucinations and delusions in some person. Psychotic depression is also caused due to the side effects of certain drugs used by the person for some other treatment. Some studies have proved that hereditary also plays a vital role in causing psychotic depression but it is rarely seen. Also sometimes certain physical panorama of the individual will lead to psychotic depression. |
