Bipolar Disorder and Depression

Bipolar disorder is basically a mental illness consisting of elevated mood swings and episodes of frequent changes in behavior. It is often called depression and manic episodes due to the sudden behavioral changes, which are usually erratic in nature. The mood swings can range from mild mania or hypomania to more debilitating highs. The periods of this mania is likely to last for a couple of hours, days or sometimes weeks and months before the patient can actually get back to his normal state of mind. |

Bipolar disorder is often mistaken as depression because of the symptoms of the condition that includes heightened mood swings, increased energy, lack of judgment and understanding. The symptoms usually vary from person to person. While some people might experience higher levels of almost every emotion and energy, some other might feel low at during the manic episode. |
Depression is one of the symptoms of bipolar disorder and not actual problem. People with bipolar disorder might show up some signs and symptoms of depression that needs to be understood and dealt with properly. When left untreated for a considerable period of time, bipolar disorder can lead to severe complications. |
