Anafranil is a medication used to treat depression but it can be used for other mental problems such as obsessive-compulsive disorder. This medication belongs to the group of drugs known as tricyclic antidepressants. Anafranil helps to balance the serotonin in the brain so that everything is working right.
Before patients start treatment with Anafranil they should tell their doctor if they have had a MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. Patients using MAO inhibitors or either have used them recently might not be able to use Anafranil for treatment for depression. When the patient needs to use any kind of MAO inhibitor when using Anafranil they should wait at least 14 days before using that medication but patients should not stop treatment with Anafranil without the doctor knowing about it.
If the patient has had a heart attack, brain damage, seizures, urinary problems, prostrate, blood pressure problems, irregular heartbeat, thyroid problems, liver disease, heart kidney or either thyroid problems then the patient should notify the doctor before they begin treatment with Anafranil because the doctor might need to give another kind of treatment. If the patient does not start to feel better within a few weeks they need to contact the doctor.
